    This is truly one of the most spectacular hardy ferns where it can be grown. The easy-to-grow 4' wide tough-as-nails clumps are composed of outward arching fronds of glossy evergreen leaves. In the landscape, holly fern produces a distinct coarse, tropical appearance. Holly fern is great when used to contrast with more lacy foliage in the woodland gardens. In severe winters, removing old fronds in early spring may be required for appearance sake. Dry to typical garden soil is best.
