We are pleased to share one of the late plant explorer, Mary Henry's amazing, hardy cyrtanthus hybrids. Cyrtanthus 'William Penn' has performed admirably in our garden since 2001, and deserves to be more widely known and grown. Cyrtanthus x henryae 'William Penn', a cross of Cyrtanthus mackenii x mackenii var. cooperi x Cyrtanthus sanguineus x sanguineus var. flammeus, was first published in 1950. For us, the bulbs on this unique amaryllid give rise to 15" tall stalks in spring, topped with clusters of 6-9 peachy orange flowers. We often see re-flowering in late summer and early fall. It's taken us over two decades to build up enough stock to finally share.
