Cypripedium 'Frosch's Mountain King' is a selected clone of the Werner Frosch hybrid, Cypripedium 'Sebastian', that combines the genes of the American East Coast Cypripedium parviflorum var. parviflorum with the Northwest US native Cypripedium montanum. Cypripedium 'Frosch's Mountain King' is much more tolerant of wet summers, which often adversely affect clumps of Cypripedium 'Sebastian'. The vigorous 23" tall, narrow stemmed plants, are topped with white pocketbook-shaped flowers that are backed by prominent, twisted, red-burgundy sepals. The Cypripedium montanum parent passed along both a slight fragrance as well as the multiple flowers per stalk trait. These flowering-sized plants are in very limited supply. As with all cypripediums, they should only be attempted by experienced gardeners.
