(aka: Crinum giganteum) Crinum 'Maya Moon' (often mis-spelled Mayan Moon) is a selection of the West African (Guinea south to Angola and west to Sudan) Crinum jagus. This unique 4' wide, compact clump is composed of upright, wide green foliage that resembles a eucomis...quite different from most other crinum lilies. In late June/early July, the flower stalks that just top the foliage emerge with 4-6 pendent ivory/light yellow buds that open to outfacing chalice-shaped flowers with a lovely vanilla scent. Despite rumors of tenderness, Crinum 'Maya Moon' has been in the ground here since 2015, during which time they have been through winter low temperatures of 11 degrees F with no protection. In Africa, Crinum jagus is used medicinally to treat wounds, pain, asthma, cough and ear ache, constipation, inflammation, and memory loss.
