Crinum 'Spring Starburst' is a 2020 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of the little-known African (Madagascar, Comoros Islands) native, Crinum hildebrandtii. Despite being discovered in 1875, Crinum hildebrandtii was unknown in living collections until 1989 when plantsman Dave Lehmiller received a bulb from the volcanic slopes of Comoros Island's Mt. Karthala. Our introduction is a seedling selection from that important collection. Crinum hildebrandtii 'Spring Starburst', forms an attractive 30" tall x 4' wide, symmetrical clump of very dark green foliage that remains looking superb, even through the heat of summer. The clumps are topped with sturdy 3' tall, cinnamon-burgundy spikes that end in umbels of pure white, sweetly fragrant flowers in May and June (NC). Thanks for helping us conserve this amazing species by growing and sharing.
