Thanks to plantsman Dick Weaver for sharing this little-grown African (South Africa to Zimbabwe) clumping spider plant. Chlorophytum colubrinum has proved to be a great late-season flowering specimen here since 2007. The narrow green leaves form a 3' wide basal rosette that is topped, starting in late September and continuing through October, with a 4' tall rigidly upright flower spike. Over the course of a month, the spike opens from bottom to top with clusters of small white star-like flowers. For us, part sun to light shade has proven to be the best habitat.
