From a Yucca Do expedition to Queretaro, Mexico comes a new, still unidentified Mexican species of beschorneria. This collection was found at 6,800' elevation, growing on rock cliffs in a moist cloud forest. For us, these have thrived in full sun in North Carolina on an unamended red clay bank. The green foliage on the 2' wide evergreen rosettes is slightly narrower than B. septentrionalis. In mid-April, the clumps are topped with amazing 4' tall brilliant red spikes that emerge like an asparagus on Viagra. The stalk opens to reveal bizarre reddish green bells. This non-spiny agave relative is great to fool your plant know-it-all friends.
