Aucuba japonica var. borealis 'Male Man' is a male selection of the northern Japanese, cold hardy form of Aucuba japonica. This selection originated in Japan and was imported by plantsman Rick Crowder as an un-named female...obviously a ploy to enter the country. The 3' tall, dwarf specimen is clothed with broad green leaves and adorned with short terminal spikes of small purple flowers in late winter.
