When visiting Virginia plantsman Paul James in 2001, he shared cuttings of several of his favorite seedling aucubas. One particular male cultivar struck our fancy with its small, contorted, glossy green leaves and extremely compact habit. After eighteen years of trials, it made a lovely 3.5' tall x 7' wide mound in our garden, so we were pleased to introduce it in 2012 as Aucuba 'Pacman'. We are pleased to make a second offering and still feel this is the best compact green leaf aucuba on the market, and that's saying something!
