Asphodeline damascena is a little known asphodel (not to be confused with infidels), hailing from Turkey, and adjacent Syria. The narrow, fleshy blue foliage resembles a clump of blue fescue, but with thick, waxy foliage. The two year old clumps are topped with 3' tall stalks of starry white flower that open in late afternoon, starting for us in early June. Damascus asphodel grows best in a gravelly rock garden setting in full sun. In the garden, these behave as either a biennial or short-lived perennial, but seed around lightly in gravelly soils. These genetics trace back to a Jim and Jenny Archibald seed collection.
