This rare evergreen species from the Sichuan Province of China is recently new to cultivation. The large leaves are dark, velvety green with dramatic silver patterns on top of the leaves, and a stunning dark purple back. In very early spring, the clumps are adorned with 1"+ wide dark purple flowers with a dramatic white "eye" surrounding the opening of the flower. A. porphyronotum makes a stunning addition to the woodland garden.
