Asarum 'Spit Shine' is our 2025 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of the little-known, Taiwanese wild ginger, Asarum hypogynum. This amazing evergreen species produces huge 7" long, super-shiny green foliage, and this clone has a lovely muted silver pattern in the middle of each leaf. This was propagated from an original 2008 division from a clump growing near an amusement park in Chiayi County, Taiwan at 5,800' elevation. It's performed beautifully for us since that time, forming a very slowly expanding 18" wide patch. The clusters of amazing flowers, purple with a wrinkled lighter eye, are produced below the foliage, starting for us in December.
