This easy-to-grow Northwest US native has evergreen foliage similar to A. europaeum but with a satiny finish, and is much easier to grow. A. caudatum is a spreading species of ginger, eventually making a nice carpet in the woodland garden...to 4' wide in 5 years in NC. The fairly noticeable reddish brown flowers in spring are a great conversation piece...even if you're talking to yourself.
