A. arifolium is our widely distributed native East Coast, evergreen species of wild ginger. The triangular-shaped leaves of green with dull silver markings emit a wonderful aroma of anise when crushed. They are best used in woodland gardens, where they quickly make nice evergreen clumps. In early spring, peek under the leaves and see the bizarre, dark purple flowers... sort of hortisexual voyeurism!
