Origin: Taiwan
This relatively unknown Taiwanese cliff-dwelling grass is essentially a dwarf (in relative terms) version of the giant reed grass (Arundo donax). The stunning bamboo-like form and texture make A. formosana an elegant clump in the back of the border. Expect a mature clump to top out at 8' tall with an equal spread. The clumps spread by thick rhizomes, at about the same speed as A. donax. In late summer, the clumps are topped with nice airy plumes.
