This unusual variety of the Himalayan A. speciosum hails from the Darjeeling region of India where it can be found around 5000' elevation on open rocky slopes and into the forest edge. It is similar to typical Arisaema speciosum, except that it flowers much later (mid-June and into July). The purple striped spathe that sits on a short stalk near the leaf base has a thick, long white spadix (rugose in this variety) that gradually transforms into a long white thread...think of it as a guide to good sex.
