This rare Chinese cobra lily is a first cousin to the more famous Arisaema candidissimum. The foliage is similar with three large, equal- sized lobes on the giant 2' wide leaf. In late spring (mid-May in NC), the flowering stalk emerges from the base to produce a thumb-sized pitcher. Each pitcher is striped dark purple and white. Emerging from the center of the pitcher is a narrow black tongue that just reaches the edge of the pitcher. The flower resembles a kid's face after being forced to eat liver and spinach.
