This 1995 Tom Croat collection of the Vietnamese A. coaetaneus came from near the Cuc Phuong National Park in Ninh Binh Province. It was collected and initially identified as A. glossyphyllus, but when it flowered, it was determined to be A. coaetaneus. The 40" stalks are topped with glossy dark green leaves. Once the corm is large enough to flower, a 30" stalk will appear in very early spring, topped by an oversized male appendage that emerges green and then turns white.
