Amorpha fruticosa is one of our wonderful native leadworts, "mined" from all of the continental states except Montana and Idaho...poor guys. In the wild, Amorpha fruticosa can be found on riverbanks, although it is also remarkably drought-tolerant in a garden setting. This ornamental legume makes a multi-trunked, 8' tall, deciduous shrub adorned with pinnate green leaves. In spring it is topped, starting for us in late May, with terminal branched sprays of bottlebrush-like purple flowers, highlighted the bright orange pollen. This offering is seed grown from plants in Cochise County, Arizona.
