(aka: Amorpha georgiana var. confusa) Amorpha confusa is a very rare (G2/G3) and little-known pine savannah endemic, native to only four counties in NC/SC. Carolina leadplant forms a small 2' tall x 3' wide, open, woody deciduous shrub, clothed with legume-like foliage, and topped, starting in late June/early July with spikes of dark blue violet flowers, highlighted by the bright orange pollen. Average to slightly moist, but well drained soils are best. The flowers are pollinated by an array of butterflies, bees, and beetles.
