This unique member of the pea family is one of our most diverse native plants with a range that takes it from Canada to New Mexico. The 3' tall clumper is adorned with fuzzy greenish-grey leaves resembling a miniature mimosa. In summer, each clump is topped with bizarre 6" long pipe-cleaner-like flowers of dark purple and orange. You will be sure to have everyone scratching their heads...so have some medication nearby. It may take 2-3 years to establish enough to flower well. Now is the time to buy one.
