The seed of this agave were collected from the area around Monterrey, Mexico where A. salmiana var. ferox intergrades with A. scabra, so we expect these are probably natural hybrids between these two species. The huge plants are composed of long blue-grey leaves, which end in a narrow tip with a long black spine. We have found these hybrids to be extremely hardy in our climate, forming superb specimens.
