Plant Nursey Assistant - Core Grower

 

 

Job Description

This is a mid-level nursery/greenhouse team member position with primary plant health and maintenance responsibilities including irrigation, pruning, fertilizing, plant spacing, greenhouse cleaning, data collection, some re-potting, and seasonal (spring/fall) greenhouse covering/uncovering. The daily duties change seasonally with the weather, with monitoring and applying irrigation being primary (90%+) during the peak growing season. Collaboration and coordination with other team members is also required.

This position requires an independent worker, with a strong work ethic, for a Friday through Tuesday work week.

 

 

Working Environment and Physical Efforts

The primary working condition for this position is an outside plant nursery environment with exposure to outdoor elements, soil, and fertilizers, The environment is fast paced, and the employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds as needed and stand for eight or more hours a day.

Location: Plant Delights Nursery/Juniper Level Botanic Garden, Raleigh, NC

Position: Full-Time, Hourly (Agriculturally exempt from overtime)

Compensation: Starting at $16.00/hr., based on experience

Standard Business Hours: Friday- Tuesday, 7:30-4:30, with occasional extra hours needed during the summer heat for irrigation tasks.

Qualifications

· A 2-year horticulture-related degree or nursery work experience is preferred.

· An intuitive ability to quickly determine plant needs, particularly related to hydration.

· A passion for growing container plants, and a strong desire to learn.

· Ability to work independently, stay organized, and follow detailed instructions.

· A detailed team player with good communication and problem-solving skills.

· You must be comfortable working outdoors in varied weather conditions and lifting up to 50 pounds as needed.
