Moraea huttonii is an amazing iris relative that hails from the high mountains of South Africa (Eastern Cape & KwaZulu-Natal). The tight clumps of 3' long, strongly arching, evergreen, iris-like foliage is topped, starting for us in mid-April with 20" stalks of bright yellow, sweetly fragrant flowers, each etched with brown vein patterns. We have found Moraea huttonii to perform best in a wide range of conditions from sun to light shade. Although it grows in damp streamsides in the wild, our plants have thrived in some of the driest areas of our garden.
