This amazing woody perennial was first brought to the US by Dr. Fred Meyer of the US National Arboretum and subsequently introduced into the trade by Woodlanders Nursery. It has never been given a cultivar name, so we are giving it the name L. 'Starburst'. We have had so many requests when visitors see our garden specimen that we propagated a few. Our stunning 7-year-old specimen is now 12' tall, with glossy evergreen leaves, each highlighted by an irregular central pattern of gold. The upright flower (dyslexic by oak standards) forms typical acorns in October. Hide the acorns and no one will guess it's an oak.
