We obtained our first plant of Hydrangea 'Hatsushimo' from South Carolina plantsman, Ted Stephens, in 2006. Since then, Hydrangea macrophylla 'Hatsushimo' has made a 3' tall x 4' wide specimen in five years. Each leaf is heavily flecked with white specks. In June (NC), the clump is topped with large lacecap flowers...blue in low pH soils and pink when the pH is higher. We have noticed a number of vigorous green shoots that appear, which must be removed to prevent them from overtaking the less vigorous variegated branches.
