This easy-to-grow and drought-tolerant South African species forms attractive rosettes of very wavy-margined, fat and fleshy green leaves. E. autumnalis ssp. clavata differs from the other species in that the leaves are incredibly thick, feeling more like a bald tire than a plant leaf. In July in NC, the clumps are topped with typical pineapple-like flower spikes of yellow-green.
