(aka: Dasylirion leiophyllum KJS 356) This seed strain of Dasylirion leiophyllum (leiophyllum = smooth leaves) comes from a Kenton Seth expedition into the Guadalupe Mountains on the Texas/New Mexico border...further north than our 2000 accession from the Fort Davis area. Dasylirion leiophyllum forms an evergreen 4' tall x 4' wide, deer-resistant, solitary specimen. Although the glaucous green leaves are smooth, the leaf edges are armed with small spines. Several natural sugars, including fructose, glucose, sucrose, and fructans are extracted from Dasylirion leiophyllum, so I can honestly say, it's a really sweet plant! When flowering time comes, expect a giant 12' tall spike...suitable for Jack and a bag full of beans. This is an offering with limited quantities.
