I'd have sure come up with a better name for this amazing US native that calls both Oklahoma and Texas home. Spores for our offering were collected from 6,000' elevation in Jeff Davis Co., Texas. The compact 8" tall clumps are composed of 2" wide silver-grey deer-resistant leaves and form a superbly gorgeous clump. In nature, C. horridula are found growing in very well-drained alkaline soils at the base of boulders. While they are drought-tolerant, they use the rocks in an attempt to keep some moisture at their roots during extremely dry periods. This is not an easy fern to grow, but is well-worth the effort if you are successful.
