We received the amazing Allium 'Nor'easter' from allium breeder Mark McDonough in 2002, and it's taken us 15 years to build up enough stock to finally share. This steroidal giant selection of the twisted leaf Allium nutans forms a stocky, slow-offsetting 1' tall clump, eventually to 18" wide. Each clump is composed of twisted glaucous leaf rosettes, each looking like they were twisted by a Nor'easter....that's a big honkin' coastal windstorm to non-Yankees. In July and August (NC), the 2' tall flowering stalks are topped with terminal spherical clusters, each with hundreds of small white flowers...a bee favorite. Allium 'Nor'easter' is quite easy to grow, and for us has proven tolerant to both drought and moist soils. We've never seen a seedling in the garden.
