More Information About Heliopsis

The genus Heliopsis contains 18 species of perennial wildflowers native to the Americas. The genus name Heliopsis, when broken down into its Latin components, roughly means "looks like the sun". This is of course referring to the yellow daisy-like flowers.

Heliopsis is easy to grow and prefers well-drained soil on the dry side and full sun. Heliopsis will tolerate a wide range of conditions (drought, poor soil) but looks its best in well-prepared organic soils. The informal habit of Heliopsis makes it perfect for a meadow garden and it also is great as a cut flower. Try replacing your annual zinnias or marigolds with perennial heliopsis. You will love them and so will the butterflies. When you're ready to buy heliopsis for your perennial garden, we hope you'll check out our online list of heliopsis for sale.
