Heliopsis 'Prairie Sunset' is an easy-to-grow 2002 introduction from the Wisconsin wild man, native plant guru, Neil Diboll. In our trials, Heliopsis 'Prairie Sunset' has been a standout selection compared to past European introductions of the great North American Heliopsis helianthoides. In spring, the black-purple stems emerge on stalks that quickly reach 6' tall. Starting in early June and continuing into early August (in NC), the clumps are topped with dazzling masses of 2", golden-orange flowers that contrast well with the purple stems and visiting butterflies. Even as the flowers of Heliopsis 'Prairie Sunset' fade, they take on a unique white pattern on the edge of the flowers. We think you will really enjoy this for a brilliant summer show in the perennial border.
