Typhonium trilobatum 'Galloway Giant' is a 2022 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of a ridiculous large form of the aroid, Typhonium trilobatum, shared by the late plantsman Alan Galloway. This widespread aroid is found from India to South China, and south to Malaysia. The trifoliate leaves emerge in spring and form a 18" tall x 2' wide mound of foliage. Starting in summer, the cupped, liver-red flowers start appearing from the base of the foliage. Moist alkaline woodland soils are best. Medicinally, Typhonium trilobatum has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties and has been used to treat diarrhea, ulcers, and heal wounds. Research also indicates that it may have some anti-cancer properties. The corms have been used in Southeast Asia both as a food and a means of suicide. Frankly, we recommend a steady diet of fast food if you're determined to check out quickly.
