Wow! I never thought I'd say that about a sisyrinchium, but this plant is really cool. We made this collection in 1994 at 1,800' elevation in the region of Puerto Purificacion, Mexico. The rapidly multiplying clump of narrow, iris-like foliage makes a dense plant to 12" wide. Beginning in early spring and continuing through early summer, the clumps are topped with 0.75", bright-yellow flowers held just above the foliage. In well-drained sites, it has been hardy to just above 0 degrees F.
