    From Dale Lindgren at the University of Nebraska comes the 1996 Perennial Plant Association Plant of the Year! P. 'Husker Red' is one of the best penstemons for both hot and cold climates. The first season, expect a narrow leaved purple foliaged basal rosette to 1' wide. The following spring, the bright purple foliage rises upward to 2', topped in mid spring by 3' spikes of white flowers. P. 'Husker Red' is easy to blend into the perennial border with a variety of other plants, especially when it begins to reseed.
