This little known hosta species from Japan is every bit as special as H. venusta, only without the name recognition. H. pullchella differs primarily from H. venusta in that the leaves are glossy green and possess a thick rubbery texture. In late spring, the 6" wide clumps are topped with 8" spikes of attractive purple and white striped flowers. H. pulchella also has short rhimomes which help the plant to make a nice patch in a reasonable time...a perfect specimen for the woodland rock garden!
