This short lived perennial has incredible soft toothed grey leaves to 12" long that make an awesome evergreen rosette. In spring, the rosette expands upward, ending in 24" tall spikes of 2" yellow poppy like flowers. By removing the old flower heads promptly after flowering, the life of the plant can be greatly extended.

The winter foliage of Glaucium flavum is the main reason to grow this poppy relative. Its foot wide rosette of deeply lobed silver-grey foliage is handsome all winter. It wants a sunny spot with good drainage and will tolerate drought. It will seed about gently if allowed to go to seed. Seedlings transplant with a reasonable degree of success if they come up where they are not wanted. Or collect seed and sow in cell packs and plant where you want them.
