(aka: E. purpureum 'Atropurpureum') This spectacular selection of the deciduous American native Joe Pye Weed is found throughout the top landscapes in Europe, but rarely in American gardens. E. maculatum 'Atropurpureum' features dark purple, bamboo-like stalks adorned with whorls of green leaves...a garden designer's dream. In August, the clumps are topped with large, dome-like flower heads of wine-pink...the perfect stopover for roving butterflies. Moist soils are preferred by this native of alkaline regions.
