Disporopsis arisanensis 'Gordon' is late 1970s Ron Gordon collection of the rare evergreen Chinese Solomon's seal, from Mt. Emei, where it grows in moist valleys and along streams. It originally was distributed as Disporopsis fuscopicta, which it is not. Our oldest patch (20 years) of Disporopsis arisanensis 'Gordon' has expanded to 3' in width. Each 9" tall stalk is clothed with four glossy evergreen 1.75" x 4.25" long leaves. The foliage may drop when temps plummet into the low single digits. In spring, the clumps are adorned with small, fragrant white axillary flowers. In our garden, it has thrived in fairly dry conditions.
