Corydalis speciosa is a lowland Far Eastern (Russia, Korea, Japan, and China) species that has been outstanding in our hot, humid climate. The spring deciduous species emerges for us in early August and continues to grow through fall and winter. The first foliage produced is glaucous and broad, compared to the much lacier foliage which follows as the weather cools. Starting for us in late March/early April, the clumps are topped with stalks of bright yellow flowers. Corydalis speciosa is a short-lived perennial, but it seeds in place, so our patches have been in place for well over a decade.
