Bouteloua gracilis 'Blonde Ambition' is a selection of the North American (mostly west of the Mississippi) native ornamental grass Bouteloua gracilis. Bouteloua 'Blonde Ambition' was selected by David Salman of High Country Gardens because of its seed heads, which age to bronze compared to the more typical brown. The wispy 3' tall x 3' wide clumps are topped from August into fall with interesting seedheads that look like tan eyelashes. Bouteloua is quite tolerant of soil-borne salts, alkaline soils, and drought, but fails to thrive in highly acidic or damp soils. We have been quite thrilled with the performance of Bouteloua 'Blonde Ambition' in our highly-amended sandy loam.
