This selection of the southwestern native (Texas to California) white sage makes a superb deer resistant garden plant. Unlike most selections of A. ludoviciana, which run faster and harder than candidates for president, A. 'Valerie Finnis' is much more restrained. The silver-white leaves adorn the 18-24" tall stems, topped in late spring with 8" narrow grey flower spikes. A. 'Valerie Finnis' thrives in a very dry sunny spot in border or grown just for dried herbal foliage. In the Chicago Botanic Garden artemisia trials, A. 'Valerie Finnis' earned the highest 4-star rating.
