Bring Excitement and Wonder to Your Garden with a Pitcher Plant

By Published April 22, 2017 Updated June 22, 2022

A Pitcher plant is a carnivorous or meat eating plant. They typically thrive in soil that is poor in nitrogen and use the inside of their tubular-shaped leaves to trap and digest insects. Pitcher plants make very interesting additions to any garden, but do require special care. It is important that a pitcher plant be placed in a sunny location, preferably a place that receives no less than six hours of direct sunlight.

While exotic and interesting, many gardeners choose pitcher plants for their beautiful color hues. In fact, giving your pitcher plant enough sunlight each day will make these colors much more intense. There are a number of ways that you can incorporate a pitcher plant into your home garden, although you should understand that some gardeners choose these for terrariums, as opposed to outdoor gardens. However, choose your environment wisely, air-conditioned rooms are generally too dry for these carnivorous plants and colder areas may simply not provide the right climate for these plants to thrive.

Plant Delights Nursery, Inc. can provide you with quality pitcher plants and other carnivorous plants for sale for your home garden. We grow dozens of species and hybrids in our gardens and have several for sale at all times. A pitcher plant is the perfect choice for gardeners who are pestered with various insects and who want a truly unique and colorful plant to display.
