We've ben enamoured with the North American big sacaton dropseed for decades, but didn't realize how exceptional our form was until we grow other genetics. Our seed strain, Sporobolus wrightii 'Summer Fireworks' is one of the least-known, but most ornamental of the US native grasses. Tolerant of extreme drought as well as alkaline soils, and with a range from Utah south to Texas, you would think it would be widely recognized by now. A single plant of Sporobolus wrightii will quickly produce a 3' tall x 4' wide clump of grey-green foliage. In midsummer and into early fall, the clump is topped with graceful 5' tall flower panicles of a delicious golden-bronze. Our big sacaton dropseed plants are seed grown from a superbly floriferous form we have grown for over a decade. We can't endorse this strongly enough.
