We are very pleased to offer another of the rarest of our southeast native plants, the large flowered skullcap, found only in isolated populations in Tennessee and Georgia, hence its assignment on the US Threatened Species list. Scutellaria montana makes wonderful easy-to-grow 15" tall x 18" wide clumps of small hairy green leaves, topped through May and June with terminal flower heads of 1"+ long blue-lavender snapdragon-like flowers. In the wild, Scutellaria montana grows on slightly-acidic well-drained outcrops and open forests where there is a lack of competition. Scutellaria montana is a great garden plant that should be more widely grown...we're counting on you to help.
