More Information About Mazus

The genus Mazus is small, containing just 30 or so species that are native from China to New Zealand. Mazus is in the Scrophulariaceae family (or Phrymaceae according to some) and is a botanical cousin to mimulus. The only species widely cultivated is Mazus reptans.

Mazus spreads modestly via stolons to form an ever-growing patch. It's petite size makes mazus perfect for a rock garden, between stone pavers, growing over a wall, or as the spiller feature in a mixed container. Mazus prefers part shade and moist but well-drained soil. In late spring to early summer, mazus produces tiny white or lavender flowers. The cute flowers are gorgeous with small spotted sections, so plant mazus where you can see it close up. When you are ready to buy mazus for your perennial garden, we hope you'll check out our online offering of mazus for sale.
