(aka: Lycoris carnea) Lycoris x elsiae is a heirloom surprise lily, occasionally passed around between Gulf Coast gardening friends, so we are pleased to offer it for the first time. Lycoris x elsiae flowers in September with 15" tall, "nekkid", shiny black stalks, topped with creamy-white spidery flowers, each petal highlighted by a peach midrib. After the flowers fade, the small clumps of narrow green evergreen leaves emerge in October and persist until May. Lycoris x elsiae is another of the surprise lilies with a mysterious origin, but DNA studies suggest it is most likely a cross of Lycoris radiata x Lycoris traubii. Our plants are from Greg Grant, who got them from the late Carolina Dorman, who got them from the late lycoris breeder, Sam Caldwell. Don't you be late in ordering yours.
