Seasonal Core Gardener
Seeking Seasonal Core Gardener to support the garden supervisory staff and the garden manager in maintaining Juniper Level Botanic Garden collections’ integrity and high-quality maintenance standards. This is accomplished by assisting in timely, accurate, and thorough weeding, mulching, cutting back, deadheading, and other maintenance duties; as well as working with seasonal garden staff to maintain and update garden areas.
We are Plant Delights Nursery/Juniper Level Botanic Garden, a perennial plant nursery established in Raleigh in 1986, offering unique, rare, well grown, and properly named perennials to passionate gardeners around the world. Despite being best known as a nursery, we actually exist for our work as a private 28-acre botanical garden and plant research facility focusing on ex-situ plant conservation, plant exploration, breeding, and making plants available via propagation. We are a family-owned company with a mission to support research, education and the exploration of plants through the sales of unique perennial plants.
Our nursery and garden provide an opportunity to work indoors and outdoors year-round, so we have a casual dress code, a diverse staff, and a friendly working environment.
Job Description
Garden Maintenance Support:
·Perform horticultural maintenance, including weeding, raking, watering, fertilizing, and mulching
·Identify plants
·Assist with installing new plants in the Garden
·Collect plant material for propagation
·Assist with grounds maintenance, including creating and repairing new planting beds, grading, and construction projects
·Assist in field trials and propagation when needed
·Repair irrigation
·Operate machinery, including hand-tools, golf carts, and tractors
·Help with Open House staffing, as needed
·Other duties with garden staff as assigned
Curatorial Support:
·Assist garden manager and plant records supervisor with curation tasks, including labeling, planting, nursery digs, and plant identification
·Other duties with garden staff as assigned
Qualifications
Standard Business Hours: Monday – Friday 8 am - 5 pm. Department hours are subject to adjustment based on the weather and may be adjusted to start as early as 6:30 AM. Some other occasional weekend work may be needed and must be open to assist other departments should the need arise.
Employee Classification: Hourly Seasonal Full Time
Compensation: Starting at $15.00 per hour

Seasonal Nursery Production Team Member

Job Description
Must be able to perform the following tasks proficiently & accurately as directed by the Production Supervisor:
- Sowing of seed and fern spores
- Vegetative cuttings
- Division of plants from pots, garden, or trial beds
- Potting of liners and bare root material
- Plant fertilization with appropriate fertilizer at the correct rate
- Place potted plants in correct stock locations
- Assist with check in of incoming plants
- Operation of farm tractors and skid-steer loader
- Assist with daily production data entry
- Other duties as assigned
Standard Work Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 4:30 pm + 9 open nursery and garden sales
weekends each year
Qualifications
Drivers license preferred
No qualifications are required, but a 2-year Horticulture related degree or comparable nursery experience is preferred.
Qualified candidates must be highly motivated professionals who thrive in fast-paced environments with a strong focus on process efficiency, attention to detail, and self-driven performance. Candidates must be able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently demonstrate a courteous and professional demeanor.
Working Environment and Physical Efforts
The primary working condition for this position is an outside plant nursery environment with exposure to outdoor elements, soils, and fertilizers, The environment is fast paced, and the employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds multiple times a day and stand for eight or more hours a day.

Must be able to perform the following tasks proficiently & accurately as directed by the Lead Grower:
- Assist the lead grower with all aspects of plant care, including watering, pruning, fertilizing, weeding, spacing, cleaning, and repotting.
- Follow daily/weekly worklists and maintain inventory logs.
- Monitor plant health, identifying pests or diseases, and alerting the plant health team when necessary.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Collaborate with fellow team members across departments to support various tasks and projects.
- Provide support during winter protection efforts to safeguard plant health included but not limited to venting, heater checks, open/closing doors, checking/filling portable heaters

- No qualifications are required, but a 2-year Horticulture-related degree or comparable nursery experience is preferred. Qualified candidates must be open to learning, process driven, self-motivated, and work as part of a team. Strong organizational and communication skills are also vital to the success of this role. They must be able to work with co-workers in a courteous and professional manner

The primary working condition for this position is an outside plant nursery environment with exposure to dirt, grease, fumes, noise, fertilizers, gravel, soil, dust, cold, heat, rain (non-climate-controlled working conditions). The environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, multiple times a day and stand on feet for up to 8+ hours a day. For safety reasons, good hearing is required specific to machines and surrounding noise. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Greenhouse Maintenance Technician

Job Description
We are seeking a reliable, mid-level worker to help manage and maintain greenhouses. This role blends hands-on physical labor, facility repair, and daily plant care. You will ensure our growing structures stay in good condition, and our crops receive precise hydration.
Core Responsibilities
· Greenhouse Facility Maintenance: Install, remove, and patch greenhouse plastic coverings on cold frame structures. Repair framing, maintain physical structures, and perform regular cleaning of greenhouse interiors and exteriors. Monitor and adjust manual ventilation/venting.
· Irrigation & Watering: Execute daily hand-watering schedules using hoses and operate overhead sprinkler systems.
· System Maintenance: Perform basic irrigation repairs, including fixing hose leaks, clearing clogged nozzles, and repairing PVC pipes or valves.
· Crop Care Assistance: Monitor soil moisture levels to prevent under- or over-watering.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
· Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
· Heavy Lifting: Must be able to comfortably lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (bags of soil, heavy hoses, equipment).
· Environment: Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including high heat and humidity inside the greenhouses.
Qualifications
• Availability: 1–3 years of experience working in a greenhouse, nursery, or agricultural setting preferred.
• Skills: Basic mechanical skills and comfort using hand and power tools.
• Personal Attributes: Strong reliability, attention to detail, and a passion for working with plants.
