This eurasian native is the counterpart to our native hepatica. Similar in appearance, H. nobilis has three lobed mottled green leaves with dark purple backsides...yes, I looked! In very early spring...February and March, the clumps are topped with small button size flowers...ranging from white to a wonderful light bluish purple.
