More Information About Chrysactinia

Chrysactinia is a genus of sunflower relatives (Asteraceae) that contains just 6 species, all native to the southwestern United States and Mexico. The scientific name " chrysactinia " comes from the Greek "chrysos" and "actinos" which roughly translates to "golden ray".

Chrysactinia is a woody shrub that is so dainty, it looks more like a herbaceous perennial. Primarily a desert plant, chrysactinia is heat- and drought-tolerant and, like most desert plants, cannot tolerate wet feet. Chrysactinia blooms over a long period from March to October (if the weather cooperates) and is covered with clusters of small yellow flowers that attract butterflies. Chrysactinia leaves are narrow and pleasingly fragrant. The plants are not attractive to deer either.

Plant chrysactinia in full sun and well-drained soil as winter moisture may rot the roots. When you are ready to buy chrysactinia for your perennial garden, we hope you'll check out our online list of chrysactinia for sale.
